PILATES-BASED PHYSICAL THERAPY

Physical Therapy at our clinic is unique because we combine the science of physical therapy with the art of Pilates.  Pilates is a form of exercise that focuses on core (abdominal) strengthening and stretching through a regimen of exercises on the mat and equipment, such as the Reformer and Cadillac.  Because it is low-impact, Pilates has widely become accepted by physical therapists and physicians as a means to rehabilitate and prevent injuries.  In addition to therapeutic exercises, a physical therapy session may include manual therapy and modalities (ie. ultrasound, electrical stimulation, etc.).

Pilates can be used to train the entire body.  Its benefits include:

  • Improved posture and body mechanics

  • Increased joint and muscle flexibility

  • Increased muscle strength and joint stability

  • Improved coordination and balance

A personalized treatment program is developed after a thorough evaluation is performed to assess the specific needs of each client.

Physical Therapy services include:

  • Manual Therapy (joint & soft tissue mobilization)

  • Pilates and traditional therapeutic exercises

  • Light Laser Therapy

  • Ultrasound

  • Electrical Stimulation

    FAQ's

    Does insurance cover Pilates?

Yes!  Pilates is covered by most insurances such as PPO, POS, Medicare and Worker’s Comp as long as you have a physical dysfunction that has been diagnosed by a physician.

Do I need a physician's referral for physical therapy?

Yes.  You can ask any type of physician for a referral for physical therapy.  The referral must state what your diagnosis is.

I don't have insurance.  What do you charge?

Initial consultation with treatment is $95 and follow-up treatments are $75.

    Do you offer free screenings?

Yes.  In a 15-minute free consultation we will discuss what your needs are and what we would do for you in physical therapy.

What if I am in too much pain for Pilates?

Initially, we will treat your pain through soft tissue mobilization (massage), ultrasound, electrical stimulation and/or laser light therapy.  When you are ready for exercise, the therapist will develop a basic program that you will be able to handle.

How long is each physical therapy session?

    50-55 minutes

What should I expect in my P.T. session?

Every session is customized to the individual's needs.  Some clients prefer to have an entire session of exercise, but most prefer a combination of exercise, manual therapy and modalities.

    What is manual therapy?

Manual therapy is hands on treatment that may include stretching or mobilization of a joint or soft tissue massage.

    What are modalities?

Modalities include electrical stimulation, ultrasound, iontophoresis, phonophoresis, paraffin, laser light therapy, heat and cold packs.  The primary goal of a modality is to reduce pain and swelling.

    What is laser light therapy?

Also known as a cold laser because it is non-thermal, laser light therapy is a specific wavelength of light that has healing properties.  When transmitted through the skin, it activates the body's  nerve network, lymphatic and circulatory systems.  It has been used for decades in Europe to reduce pain and swelling, but it has just recently been FDA approved in the U.S.

We accept Medicare, PPO's and Worker's Compensation.  Please call our office to verify your benefits.
